Twitter
Twitter is a microblogging service that allows people to keep themselves up-to-date with each other. Twitter clients are available in the form of browser plug-ins, taskbar applets and stand-alone applications. Example client applications are Echofon and TweetDeck.
Atom
Atom is a format used to publish frequently updated information like blog entries and news headlines. The Atom feeds are documents that contain the news items. News feed readers are available that periodically check the feeds for updates and display them to the user. Examples of popular News feed readers include Google Reader, RSSOwl, Liferea and Akregator.
iCalendar
iCalendar is a format to publish event schedules. Calendar applications are available that can iCalendar files and display the events in a calendar format. Examples of Calendar applications include Google Calendar and Mozilla Sunbird.
